Next time: something else!
Chief Bahia does not approve.
Think about your life choices, Reed!
son I am disappoint
Do you really need his approval? Sometimes the lack of approval is the problem in some case, they either don’t take everything into account or simply refuse to see both sides out of a bias they just can’t get beyond in the first place. In this case I’d say the chief is the one with the bias…
You don’t approve? You don’t approve? It’s his goddamn arm. Who the fuck are you to just walk around disapproving of people’s arms?
I don’t approve of your eyes. They should be green. Have them replaced.
I don’t approve of your attitude or your language, go to your room!
I don’t approve of you two not approving of people not approving of stuff. Go away please. Otherwise I will be too dizzy to disapprove your disapprovements of disapproving people who disapprove of disapprovers.
“So I heard you disapprove of disapproval, so I put some disapproval in your disapproval so you can disapprove while you disapprove”
Oh yeah? Prove it!
Damn, he’s cold. Poor Lawnhead is just trying to do the right thing. ;^;
Makes me wonder if Reed and his dad just drifted over time or if there was something specific that happened… I mean, he didn’t even react when Reed arm got CUT OFF, for god’s sake. There’s gotta be some story behind these two.
I think he’s just one of those dads who cares, but can only say so very indirectly. He wants Reed to focus on recovering, and he’s glad he’s adjusting, but you can’t just say those things and leave it at that – the boy might go all soft! So he makes sure to tear the kid down a little in between.
Yeah, seems like he’s just one of those Uber-formal guys who comes from an era when men don’t have feelings and affection turns boys into sissies.
Though I kind of half-suspect he just has trouble balancing his professional relationship with his son with his familial relationship with his son. If he pulled him into his office, greeted him with a big hug and a “How the hell are you?”, shooting the shit for a couple minutes about his son’s new date before moving onto the “Oh, by the way, that shit you’re pulling with this Blitz fellow. Uncool.” and sending him out without any punitive action it’d be an opening for talk of nepotism and the like. Obviously there’s a happy medium somewhere between here and there but he might be having trouble finding it.
I…don’t know much about this topic, so I’m not exactly sure who to agree with.
But I can tell you papa Reed’s face is tiny!
It looks face-sized.
I don’t totally agree, in the flashback scene before Reed joined the force we had a preview of his view of vigilantes, and at the same time a good look at how his father saw the same thing, they’ve drifted apart because they don’t see things the same way.
Time to join the vigilante side, Reed. We have all the fun & wise cracking that one can handle!
I don’t know what kind of choice of robot arm he would approve of.
I’m guessing he was hoping for something that looked exactly like a real arm. It’s either that or an arm without whatever cool gadget Reed has built into that thing. I’m betting there’s more to this than meets the eye.
My assumptions exactly. Dad’s just “Why doesn’t your arm look like a NORMAL arm? You know, like NORMAL people wear. THAT arm makes you look like Tony Stark’s trailer-trash cousin.”
Yeah. I’m not liking father Reed. I understand he doesn’t like blitz and might not approve of the new iron man arm but he could at least trust his son not to leak information about a huge crime ring. :/
I can’t tell if his using the words “the change” instead of “your loss” is an attempt to make his son feel better by making it seem like the loss is not that big a deal, or an indication that Squatlow himself doesn’t think it’s that big a deal because he’s ice fucking cold.
I’m guessing Bahia can’t tell either.
In his defence, not to say I approve or anything, it may also just be that in an age with easily accessible cybernetic limbs, it isn’t a big deal, beyond the immediate pain. He may also not approve of the blaster/gun built into the arm, which was indicated by someone else as definitely being ‘out of spec’ and possibly not the image the police force is going for. Not to mention that it IS a state of the art, cutting edge, much better than public servants probably usually get arm, so might indicate Reed ‘owes someone a favor’ in a way that could clash with his job. Not even guessing if the identity of Blitz is as terribly kept a secret in-universe as out (A man with a known association with a child vigilante… is given an arm by a very rich cybernetics company heiress who happens to be that age!)
I think it is entirely possible that every who needs to, or thinks hard about it, knows exactly who Steffi is, but given her family and such is just ignoring it, or if her dad even might run active interference (investigate this too much, find yourself walking a beat in skid row! While being forced to listen to Skid Row!)
I guess it’s official. This entire universe has ADD.
When Steffi confessed her identity to Reed, he said that everybody was already pretty darn sure it was her but couldn’t really do anything about it or make anything official because her dad has like seventy lawyers or something.
So that’s totally a canon in-universe thing and Papa Reed probably knows exactly where any advanced cybernetics are coming from.
In panel 5 his prosthetic is on the right side, and in panel 6 it’s his left side…
That’s because he’s shown from the back in that panel D:
I noticed after I posted that, I’m sorry D:
“suppose” makes more sense than “supposed” in the first panel there.
blargh, typo fixed
Why doesn’t Dad doesn’t approve of the Red Right Hand? =<
I suspect it’s because he thinks it looks tacky or something
Probably because it looks like a slimmer version of Hellboy’s rock arm. Seriously, look at it!
Oi! Nobody, but nobody, insults Arm-kun!
Cube needs to add Arm-Kun to the character tags.
…so I just read this all the way through from page one start to finish.
My thoughts on the comic so far:
Instantly hooked. <3
by the way, I guess you can see where I found this place through my Gravatar :3
Anyone remember Lightspeed Rescue,Time Force or SPD? Yes,they’re Power Ranger seasons, but there’s a common element to them. They’re a Ranger team funded by the Government. They’re the eqivalent of a police force with Batman esque tech. ….Maybe that’s pushing it,but my point still stands. I get Reed’s father is bitter,as I do with him angry that a kid is managing to do their jobs and make them look stupid, but come on.
