    They’re not actually headphones, they’re noise-canceling ear muffs so that Ben won’t have to listen to anymore of Steffi’s crazy schemes.

    I’m guessing there’s something else inside the box besides (what we all are assuming to be) the headphones he’s wearing in the last couple comics. Either that or said headphones are special in some way. I’m thinking a plain pair of headphones, no matter how fancy or sophisticated, would not cause Ben to suddenly rush up and scoot off to find Steffi.

    Im really enjoying this Comic has got me drawn in Ben is cool. seems to me he wants to open the present but doesn’t want to want to look cause of the argument. Very real.

    @Virtualplay Either that or he really wanted a new pair of headphones. Perhaps there’s a kind and friendly letter in there. Maybe the letter has a kiss mark– no wait, that couldn’t be right…

    Also, is anyone else wondering what those two bean-shaped things are on his night stand? I keep staring at them trying to figure out what they are.

    Somehow I noticed the two dogs in the first panel immediately, but I didn’t notice that he was lying down with one of ‘em in the six’th panel- even though it is hugely noticeable.

    My ADD never ceases to amaze me, lol (it makes me not see thing that are so super obviously in front of my face).

    Suddenly it is revealed that the headphones allow Ben to understand Dogspeak. As well as everything but actually serve as standard headphones.

    @LukemanBack: My first guess would be earplugs so he can sleep at night (he does have two dogs). Second guess would be some kind of communication device. *shrug*

    @Tara: That’s okay, I almost didn’t notice the big dog until I noticed Ben was petting it. I thought it was a rug at first.

    A heartfelt note is the one thing that feels the most sensible. Steffi seems the sort who, after years of pranking, would put that in the box instead. Maybe jack-in-the-box it, because old habits do die hard.

    That said, that’s me, I’m a bit unstable in these matters.

    Awesome page. In all honesty, I thought she got him the bike. As in, inside the box was a key with a note saying “check out back” or something to find the bike.
    If it was the headphones, I can only imagine that they were attached to a recorder that played back Steffi apologizing or wishing him a happy birthday. Those are my theories.
