So now ya know
Aw…. Why does it have to be the cute ones shipping with one of the beloved protagonists who turn out to be the traitors?
It could It’s not the real Jones, and Alter replaced her recently. But even I think that’s a super long shot.
If it works with my OTP, I’m gonna wager on it.
And for an experienced cop:
1. Cho looks away from Jones while she’s that close? Sure, there’s really someone there, but now Jones can grab her gun and wrestle it away or similar.
2. Last episode, we berated Celesta for going off on her own. Now that we know she’s the mole (or monkey) of Alter in the NYPD, that accusation falls more properly on Cho.
To be fair to Cho, she’s probably not used to NOT having Reed around in the field. It was honestly a poor choice for her to be brought at all.
Backup, it’s the guy I always have behind me… wait a second…
To be fair, it would be stupider just to ignore the voice behind her.
That’s because the correct move is to step and turn to the side so you can see both at the same time
I always thought she was fishy
Yeah, she really made a monkey out of them.
To be fair, most of them are rather bird-brained…
Well they did trust Jones. They couldn’t have know she was lion.
Who could have known she was a snaje in the grass.
Now we know why ALTER had someone named “Cebus.” Heheh.
So If Alter are big into animal body modding, do you think Jones has like a hidden money tail, or can maybe use her feet as hand? Or maybe it’s just a name.
I think the name came from the fact that she has no mods at all, and we, as humans, fancy ourselves as being close relatives to monkeys.
Either that or Cube is RACISS. >:(
Reiterating what I said below:
Worse thought: her alterations aren’t apparent or cosmetic but internal and give her physical abilities above human norm- meaning she can easily kick Cho’s ass and even kill her- especially now that Cho is distracted.
Given that Cebus doesn’t seem to be terribly afraid of Cho’s weapon (her expression change in Panel 4 isn’t lost on me), that’s… unsettlingly likely.
Jones always was my favourite supporting character! (Even if I was the only one to vote for Jones in the popularity contest.)
I also think Flores and Barnes should never be separated, so we never do learn who is who.
Flores is battery-face!
That or Flores blows off stress by relaxing in a chairs.
Cube, you magnificent bastard. I read your COMIC! And all I can say is; good show. Anyways, god damn is Jones ever cold. Pretending to like Reed, while all the time being a traitor.
This update also had me going back to the time when Reed was hospitalized to see if there were any signs of body alterations on Jones. I didn’t see any, despite her wearing relatively skimpy casual clothing.
“Cebus” is a family that monkeys belong to, if I recall. And since there’s that thing about monkeys and humans being similar…technically she’d be the least altered of the group.
So, what is her special attack power? Flinging poo?
Aw, c’mon! Someone had to say it!
You do know that when monkeys become violent, they do more than just fling poo, right? They’re stronger than they look and are aggressive vicious when they attack.
Of course, we’re talking about a human being with medical alterations, so Cebus is far, far more dangerous than either a normal human being or a normal monkey.
Not all of the members have body alterations. Racoon doesn’t, for example. Neither did a number of people at the bar. They just wear costumes.
Good point. But a traitor is dangerous enough.
I always got the sense that Chandra was relatively new to their gang, hence why she was basically there go for and why she was still fully human.
Well, I was pretty sure I knew exactly what was going to happen, and had a backup assumption just in case that one didn’t pan out. This was neither of them. Well done!
What were they, if you don’t mind me asking?
Guess A was that there was somebody BEHIND Jones and the whole cliffhanger was a fakeout. Guess B was Cho being the baddie. Either way, Jones wasn’t on my radar at ALL.
Same here! Same here! I really wonder why it didn’t register with us that Jones possibly was Cebus. Was it because she seemed like such a nice person and is in a relationship with a main character? Right now, even with the reveal, even in panel 3 where she says, “I never did like you very much,” she doesn’t at all seem sinister. I’m honestly expecting her to suddenly look nasty and evil (compare with Gear, 35 and Tigris)- but she still just doesn’t.
Celesta was one of my two top guesses for the mole, actually, due to being in a romantic relationship with Reed. The second was Squatlow.
It’s always the ones closest to us.
Compare with Tigris in the last panel of http://www.kiwiblitz.com/comic/page-278/
I think a big part of it is, honestly, Jones hasn’t DONE much lately. All the stuff that established her as nobody to be suspicious of was so long ago that we never thought to question it. (that’s some expert pacing, right there)
Also, the thought occurs that the mole for this group of people who are really, weirdly into animals has the name of a My Little Pony character. DUN DUN DUUUUUUUN.
So, I can’t seem to recall where, but somewhere on the site way back when, there was a picture of the Track 5 cover with a notation that read “Jones has a monkey face”.
That’s some long-term foreshadowing, there.
So Jones animal is a capuchin?
Good to know
Awwww, crap. This sucks…. Now I am sad. Jones was always my favorite character. :/
Now we know who the mole is among the police- and Cho knows as well. As such, only two possibilities:
1. In order for Cebus to remain a mole in the NYPD, the only person who knows it’s Jones has to be eliminated. Cho has to die- or at least be taken out in such a way that she can’t reveal her secret.
2. If Cho survives and gets to talk, there’s no way Cebus remains a mole on the NYPD and romantically entangled with Reed.
What if Cebus is being spoken to off camera and is the reason why SWAT is not communicating? What if Jones connection with SWAT is family?
That’s assuming Jones isn’t Cebus and Cube’s ambiguous “So now ya know” comment is a trick or refers to something else- which would be pretty skillful of her.
Okay. But if Jones IS Cebus, Cho is screwed unless Cebus and Alter screw up first.
Besides, Jones response of “I never did like you very much,” sort of implies she IS Cebus. If she was innocent, I think she would have said something else.
So it has nothing to do with the “You’re pointing a gun which can only stun me in my face.”
More importantly putting a monkey on the force would be noticed considerably sooner than this. It’d be so much easier for Sus scrofa to fit in.
If you’ve got a gun pointed at your face- even if it can only stun you, which is still painful- but you were innocent of what was being said of you by said gun wielder, you’d be trying to dissuade said person from pointing a gun at your face by telling them you’re innocent rather than speaking something confrontational that could potentially escalate the conflict that could cause said person to shoot you in the face.
Out of those 2, Ms “No First Name” Cho is the one that looks more like a monkey than Jones
I just realized that “I never did like you very much.” sounds very much like a Pre-Asskicking Line. O_O
Just what I was thinking. Cho’s gonna be ded real soon, son.
If you stop the flow of short term memory into long term memory then you lose the last 20 or so minuets, so she does not have to die just get drugged (or really drunk very fast or heavily concussed might also work). Given how good these people are at drugs they may just both wake up next to each other with headaches and no memory of the last ~20 mins, or at least claiming such, which would defeat any suspicion and allow the mole to continue her work.
See, I thought the person behind them was calling Cho Cebus (because she was the one with the lengthy explanation,) and Jones’ reaction was just because… well. She never liked Cho on the force. That’s how I read the page, anyway.
You guys are probably right, but I think there’s a little bit of a clarity issue here, if this is meant to be the pseudo-reveal. If it’s not, then bravo for keeping this ambiguous.
I’m with you, it seems like someone is making fun of Cho’s conclusion that Jones is dirty. I took the clarity issue as intentional.
I took it to mean that Jones thought she was flying completely under their radar, and now off panel person is mocking her for getting found out.
Read it that way as well
Also the way I’m reading it, still seems kinda’ ambiguous. Something’s off.
Or I might be reading too much into it. O_O
Well, crud! My mind just so went where it should never go
who would be the least likely suspect? What about Reed? Now that would be a total mindfart!
Did anyone else notice the shadow behind the crates in the last panel?
Wow! Good eye!
*sigh* It’s always the cute ones.
I’m surprised that Reed’s dad, as Chief, has had no contact with their SWAT team and is only communicating with them now, at the scene. He relied completely on Jones’ word. Yes, he trusts her (“Jones is a good officer.”) but he’s the higher ranking officer and in charge of the non-SWAT NYPD in this operation- he’s the one who’s supposed to be coordinating with SWAT, not Jones.
Also, why didn’t any of them try to call SWAT directly through their comm devices? I was about to point out that such makes Jones’ running off even more suspicious, but the Chief should have done the same with SWAT. The cut in communications excuses him, though.
And what is Alter trying to do? What is Alter trying to achieve by this trap? Are they trying to kill or take hostage the NYPD? That strikes me as counter-productive as far as getting Natrix back is concerned because… it doesn’t get Natrix back in itself. Even as far as it becomes a hostage exchange scenario, it raises Alter from just being a shadowy group to an outright threat, meaning the NYPD has more reason to actively seek and arrest them.
To send a message most logically. If they kill Papa Reed, it help establish their dominance. Very animal kingdom, very fitting.
It would also be an open declaration of war between the government and Alter. Either:
a) The NYPD is that poorly equipped, funded and supported that a criminal group is willing to declare themselves public enemies,
b) Alter thinks (or is) that strong that they CAN take on the NYPD without consequence, or
c) All of the above.
Sending a message still strikes me as an act of arrogance than an effective warning.
Well it’s already been mentioned that the NYPD are underequiped, but you’re probably right. Perhaps, since they already said that they were keeping the raid need-to-know, one else knows they’re there. The chief and some of his top officers turning up dead isn’t gonna t
Do rule of law any favours. Either way, I sure Cube will explain in coming pages.
Maybe it’s all a diversion, drawing away as many people from the station as possible before breaking Natrix out?
By now the data is already gone. Natrix may or may not have been broken out in the attempt.
And now Cho headbutts a path to victory. C’mon, Cho!
CALLED IT! I never really liked Cho, so she couldn’t be the traitor! Elan would be proud.
Actually, Jones could still be Cebus. We just saw Reed get a message saying he should be there just in case. Cho may have set the mole up. Made herself a target to flush out the mole and lead him/her into a trap. The voice could be Reed’s or Steffi’s. It could also be that neither are the mole and they are either A) speaking to one of the heroes or B) in an ALTER ambush. That one officer playing tetris is kind of suspicious.
Or worse – there are TWO moles (One being an actual mole)!
And Why Jones? You had Reed’s love, the chief’s approval, an awesome place on the Squad,Third place one my fav KB character List (42 is first and Chandra/Racoon is second), and now you’ve gone and betrayed the group!
WHY DO MY FAVORITE CHARACTERS ALWAYS END UP BEING EVIL?!!!!!!
