Oh okay then
Sidebar: I’m gonna be in Seattle when this page goes up! I’ll be here a whole month while I work on various things with Scott and also hang out and have dreamtimes!
…And you’re SURE you haven’t watched Doctor Who?
“Oh my God, STEFFI!”
How is that a Doctor Who reference? Is it from the older series that I unfortunately haven’t watched?
No, it’s from Let’s Kill Hitler.
Mels: Come on! You two would be perfect together!
Rory: No, I don’t think–
Amy: We can’t, because he’s–
Rory: Just a friend
Amy: Gay. What?
Amy: Come on, it’s obvious! Name one girl, ONE GIRL that you’ve ever fancied.
Rory: *blushes and runs off*
Amy: *glances shocked at Mels*
Mels: *shrugs & grins*
Amy: Oh my god, RORY! *runs after him*
Well. At least he’s honest.
Honesty hurts.. I do wonder what happens next D:
Purple Hair = Gay Chick
Well, in both her cases of dyed (pink) and natural (blonde) hair color, Steffi doesn’t qualify.
Pink looks purple. Then again, I might need new glasses. When I see purple hair, I’m thinking of the purple-haired girl in the Scott Pilgrim movie. She was like all over the place with the guys and the gals.
Oh hey, cool, that description works perfectly for me! But somehow people still think I’m straight……
This made me laugh inappropriately loud in the dining hall.
I let out a comically girlish cackle.
Oh man, I feel for her. I have been in that exact situation 4 count em FOUR times. Once, I asked the girl I’d been hanging out with, becoming good friends with, out. It took her a good few minutes to realize, YES, I was asking her out. Her response was to gape open mouthed, and say, Wait…. YOU’RE STRAIGHT???
Said by a gay friend of mine:
“We’re all gay; some people just don’t realize it yet…”
You might need to explain to him where babies come from.
Genetic engineering to randomize the genes and DNA of the parent(s) to produce an embyro, which is grown in a lab and a newborn by late afternoon, right?
….well it would be in my perfect word.
That would be so much better than the dated methods currently in use, but I’d still be committed to remaining childless.
Actually, that way could allow the babies to stay in test tubes from conception until age 6. That way, we never have to deal with squalling diaper-poopers ever again.
But that would prevent them from mentally developing past the squalling and diaper-pooping stage, which would defeat the purpose.
He figures some poor suckers are bisexual, and they act hetero for 20 years to have children, and then finally relax and turn gay
Ah. Of course. This comic also covers the growing up of its cast.
My hat’s off to you, Ms. Cagle. Nice work.
Poor Steffi. I have been her.
Well, sans that super nice mechanical limb and the awesome headphones, I basically have, I guess.
You’ve been a teenage girl with pink hair that pilots mechs for a living?
Pffft- Who hasn’t?
Yeah, man. Hell, I’m a 26 year old man, and I did the whole ‘teenage girl who pilots mechs’ thing. But that was before I discovered just how freakin’ awesome heavy metal and vikings were.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, there’s some Christians holed up inside of a church that need smoking out…
You guys… I died laughing
But yes, I’ve been a teenage girl with pink hair that pilots mechs for a living.
VIDEO GAMES, YOU GUYS
So have I, if MOMO Mizrahi from Xenosaga counts. I kinda want to know what video games you’re talking about, though. This isn’t exactly a common trope.
@Seth: Do the Metabots games count? I didn’t mess with them for too long, so not sure if you get a choice of character model or whatnot XD
wow i am laughing but also dying a little this is way too cute for me
it’s so cute it’s killing me help
This person needs 10 CCs of anit-Fluff STAT!
…Hey Ben? Would you like some salt with your foot?
Ben no, thats not how it was suppose to go come on. >Y Come on man don’t screw this up.
Could of done worse, Ben.
But stay on the defense and be a gentleman, but not a weirdo, yah hear?
(I hope that ‘gay’ statement will have no involvement on Steffi and Chandra being together, I like BenxSteffi WAY better than ChandraxSteffi..
lets hope there is no chandraxsteffi
YA HEAR THAT MARY??? LISTEN TO YOUR FANS!!
D: NUUUUUU my dreamship forevs, don’t sink~
Right, that’s it. I’m officially throwing in with the SteffixChandra shippers. Not because I ship them, but because it’s a pairing I wouldn’t mind, whereas SteffixBen just seems wrong somehow.
Yay, join us! *Officially invited to tea brunch and costume parties.*
….or whatever it is that people who like the same thing do.
I am always down for tea.
I can understand why you would go for SteffixChandra, but there seems to be more in SteffixBen.
They’ve always been there for one another. Even though Steffi drives Ben mad constantly, we always see him coming back. He’s drawn to her. And they’re a great team; the logic and strategy + the get up and go, the one who gets the job done.
I find BenxSteffi fun and original, while ChandraxSteffi is just a simple childhood crush AND I HOPE THAT MARY ISN’T SUGGESTING SUCH FEELINGS JUST FOR THE FANDOM, but I’m sure the author will satisfy no matter which direction she takes.
Steffi and Ben absolutely do work very well together. Platonically. I couldn’t tell you why, but I just don’t care for the idea of theirs becoming a romantic relationship.
Also, while it is true that Steffi’s relationship with Chandra currently has less depth and history than her relationship with Ben does, there’s no reason why it can’t be developed.
Agreed! I will ship Steffi and Ben as BFFs for eternity, but nothing more.
It just seems wrong somehow, like in “Kim Possible” when Ron and Kim started dating. The show was still great, but it just felt like the creatores had REALLY screwed up with that decision.
Friend-zoning is actually the way to go sometimes!
(Though I’ll gladly accept whatever Cube throws at us, becasue she is just that awesome.)
Ok, Seth. Yeah I would agree with you that a lovey-dovey, constantly flirting and touchy sort of relationship would just make no sense between Ben and Steffi -that would be real awkward. But down deep it seems they both really care about each other.
If Mary would to take SteffixChandra to an interesting place where there was more motivation than “Chandra thinks Steffi is awesome and is attracted to her” and actually gives Steffi any sort of thoughts toward Chandra (that would make sense in her character), that could go in a similar direction, I wouldn’t mind it. But right now it’s just like I said above: childish crush. Plus, Steffi being plenty older than Chandra doesn’t make it any weirder for me..
Ben can be the secondary zucchini.
GOD! You people have no lives! Who cares who get’s paired with who?
Fans, typically. Welcome to the Internet, and please enjoy your stay.
I WILL NEVER LET THE S.S. STEFFIXCHANDRA SINK. No matter what. Even if the world is against it, I will be there bailing out the water with my bare hands. I will swim beneath it and push it up if need be! It will float FOREVER.
I will gladly help in this endeavour~
*Scuttles the ship*
Frankly, so do I.
What about SteffixJones or SteffixAnnouncer Lady
Bizarre as it may seem, JonesXReed is actually something I supported all along.
(Yes, I do hetero shipping now too, apparently)
Not sure why, but Jones is just SOOOO adorable-looking. (>3<)
You mean besides her cheerful expressions, her outgoing personality, and her adorable taste in fashion? Yeah, I don’t know why she’s so adorable either.
‘Course there’s also the fact she has huge…tracts of land, but that factor falls more under the category of smexy methinks.
Part of the confusion for my feels!
Normally I can’t stomach anything bigger than small parks and apartment-window gardens. (Well, okay bit of an exaggeration, but still don’t really like open expanses of real estate.)
Um, Chandra’s a little girl. I don’t want Steffi to be a paedo.
I hope you’re not serious. In case you hadn’t noticed, Steffi’s not that old herself (do we even know what their exact ages are?). Anyway, what difference does a few years make if they’re mutually attracted?
Steffi is 14, we know this because it was her birthday at the start of th strip and there’s only been a few months in-comic. Ben is a little more vague, but is assumed to be about the same age because of their relatively similar size.
Ben is also confirmed to be 14.
Chandra is 11, so there’s not really a big deal at all. Especially if Chandra waits a couple years.
In 10, 20 years that’d be perfectly normal. But they’re still children where each year can add a new level of experience and maturity. So a relationship between a 24 and a 21 year-old wouldn’t be weird but at their ages now, that’s pretty bizarre. I’m sure Steffi has been through puberty far longer than Chandra, if Chandra has even gone through it yet.. just saying..
I did think of that, but they’re still not that far apart. Consider also that it’s the ratio between their ages that matters, and that’s approaching one. Let c be Chandra’s age in years, and let r be the ratio between their ages. If we assume they’re exactly 3 years apart, then r = (c+3)/c = 1+3/c. Differentiating with respect to c, we get r’ = -3/c^2. r(11) = 1.2727… and r’(11) = -0.02479. (1-r(11))/r’(11) = 0.0909…
It’s hard to pinpoint the threshold of feasibility, but if they’re not already there, I’m sure they’re fast approaching it. Take that, Randall Munroe.
Also, it does vary very greatly between individuals. It really matters the characters’ experiences and how they are raised and what they are taught.
Steffi and Ben seem pretty mature for their age and Chandra sure is tough, so I wouldn’t assume that she is much less mature than them, but we haven’t seen much from Chandra. But even if we would strangely find that the two are pretty level in their maturity and have compatibility, etc, I still find that the difference between the physical maturity of the two makes a relationship pretty weird.
If a 20-year old and a 50-year old have the same sort of experiences and maturity it’s cool for them to be a couple, right??
Maybe. But it’s still real creepy.
But yeah, in like 8+ plus years and with some reasonable affinity development the two would work -but I still vouch for SteffixBen.
I find it cute, fresh, pure-of-heart while it can still bring conflict -but the kind of conflict that really ..polishes a relationship. Really makes you who you are. Yah know?
“If a 20-year old and a 50-year old have the same sort of experiences and maturity it’s cool for them to be a couple, right?? Maybe. But it’s still real creepy.”
I can’t help but take that as a horrific insult at everyone who’s had relationships with someone who isn’t the same age as them.
Additionally, puberty is INSANELY different for every human. You can’t possibly assume that it happens at the same age and in the same way for everyone.
Finally, I’ve known plenty of 13-year-old who’ve dated 16-year-olds or older. Besides the fact this is the far-flung KBverse future, even today an 11-year-old and a 14-year-old wouldn’t be that big of a deal. I mean, sure, you’d be more portective of your 11-year-old kid than your 14-year-old kid, that’s only natural. But there are actually laws in most places to protect kids in relationships with those older/younger than them, rather than throwing the older kid in jail (a few places are like that, and they suck).
Sorry Shockpulse, if that put off an insulting vibe. It wasn’t intended. :/
I was just comparing a relationship between adults 30 years apart to children 3 years apart. After people have matured age is just a number, but in adolescent every year is different. Sexual (not the actual act) love between two people of a ‘significant’ age difference may be justified (not the best term, but I think you catch my drift) but sometimes something still feels off. I’m not talking about “relationships with someone who isn’t the same age as them.” -I’m talking when the difference of age is a significant factor; when you’re younger that number happens to be lower.
But like I said above: “Also, it does vary very greatly between individuals. It really matters the characters’ experiences and how they are raised and what they are taught.” Just because a relationship is all pedo w/ a pair of people w/ totally different ages, doesn’t mean that that has to be the case for all pairs of the same ages. So yeah, puberty does vary between every human, I agree. I’m just saying that it normally isn’t the case for two people of entirely different ages/maturities. And I’m not getting the vibe that Steffi and Chandra are in total love or see eye to eye at the time, so I’m not going to jump to ship them.
And yeah, 13 year old, 16 year old relationships aren’t a big deal, but I’m pretty sure they’re not the best/strongest ones. Of course this isn’t a law set to all relationships that are like this, like I said: it varies. Did that make sense? That was alot of text on my part.
I apologize if I set an atmosphere of myself that felt insulting. We all forget that text shrouds inflection and I forgot that others could read it in a way that I don’t intend. Sorry, I never wanted to argue and say “steffixchandra is evil,” I just wanted to rationalize why I preferred SteffixBen, and I normally explain myself in full..
Still far enough apart for Chandra to be Jailbait. Ewwww!
Wouldn’t that be juviebait in Steffi’s case? Anyway, I fail to see how. I doubt anyone here is shipping them sexually (I don’t really ship them at all; I’m just arguing it as a preferred alternative to SteffixBen, and definitely not as a sexual relationship), and as far as I know, there are no laws against minors dating each other.
Thank you! Chandra hasn’t really started puberty yet, whereas Steffi is almost a woman, so anything between them would be fundamentally wrong. It’s a cute idea, but no.
Well, what do yah know?
I think I might have spawned the biggest ‘comment discussion/conversation-thread thing’ in Kiwi Blitz history. I feel kinda special.
(The current high score is 27. Take me on. ..Even though most of it wasn’t my doing. It’s mostly because I was the first to bring up the clashing ships. But yeah. 27. Beat it.)
Considering most of the replies are disagreeing with you, I wouldn’t take pride in it.
Well, like I said “most of it wasn’t my doing.” I’m not really feeling pride, I just feel a little special that I got to be the one to help further this ‘community’ in discussion about our appreciation about the comic. The fanbase is getting better and Mary has earned it.
And this entire conversation is about shipping. That’s a lot about opinionated fandom. It’s not really agreeing or disagreeing, it’s just plenty of people prefer SteffixChandra and I think SteffixBen is better. I don’t think I have been insulting or anything, and I apologize if it seemed that way.
In all fairness to LD, there were a few who were in agreement, and all but one of the contrary replies were written by the two of us. A vocal minority should not be taken to reflect popular opinion.
Nah. We represent the fandom, right? (^w^)
And disagreement is, after all, what prompts long conversations. It’d be rather boring if we all agreed.
Posting endless posts agreeing with other people only occurs when the people involved are 14 and female.
Are you trying to imply something about Steffi?
Yes, it’s good to see we can all take something different fro the comic and converse with respect towards other fans with different opinions.
We all enjoy and love the comic, some just enjoy certain elements more or less than others.
That…is a really interesting move! I feeling real admiration here. This is nifty. Ben is so nonchalant that it is sort of hard to be mad at him, even with his words being…less than kind, I guess? I mean, friends are honest with each other, and this is honest, and he hasn’t attached any negatives to the state (frankly, I could so see Ben as Steffi’s wingman, and being absolutely cool about it), so all kinds of bully for him…but it’s got to be awkward for all involved since his assumption wasn’t correct (or, at least, entirely correct, we’ll see how it plays out), and that’s obvious in this page, so well visually emoted, Cube! *claps*
Oh, you screwed up bad this time Benny boy. Cue the “And what exactly about me made you think I was gay?!?” argument opener.
Actually, that was very diplomatic of Ben. You can’t take these things for granted. She had never shown any attraction to him before, after all.
But he did take her being gay for granted. That’s the problem, see. It would be understandable if she were annoyed by the fact that he never gave her the opportunity to confirm or deny. That said, I do hope she reacts more calmly than Laz expects her to.
I think Steffi has matured enough not to get too argumentive. Probably a panel of silence followed by “Oh.”
And Steffi took him being around for granted. That’s the real problem. Guys know that hitting on your female best friend is the best way to end a good friendship. The onus was on Steffi to show, unambiguously, that there was an interest.
Women are too opaque when it comes to dealing with males. That needs to change.
Maybe you’re right. I can’t relate, though. I’m well aware that my experience of romantic attraction has been, erm… atypical. I’ll leave it at that.
It’s hard to believe that this is the same guy who started as a cool guy, became a douche, then a badass, then an average guy, and now is suddenly incredibly adorable beyond words. Ben really is a complicated character…
Awww I never saw him as a douche, for my part. I mean, he was being the reasonable person trying to stop Steffi from doing foolish things.
Honestly, neither did I; that just seemed to be the general consensus, so.
Well, this is interesting. If Steffi’s talking to Ben about this, it’s safe to say she’s probably not gay, which implies that Ben’s assumption was probably based mainly on an apparent lack of interest in boys. Even now, Steffi’s not actually showing much interest. This conversation seems to have been prompted more by social expectation than any attraction to Ben. I am suddenly hoping that Steffi turns out to be ace.
Whether she’s gay or not I get the impression that she primarily wants to be 100% certain that Ben isn’t doing all these things for her just because he’s got a crush on her or something. Because if that were the case, she would probably feel bad about it if she couldn’t reciprocate his feelings.
So in order to find out for sure, she’s trying to bait him into admitting that he’d want to date her, if that is what he really wants. Which would be why she’s asking in a way that doesn’t reveal what she herself might be feeling/wanting, since she would want to be able to snatch away the date-me-bait without having lied to him.
Had he gone for the bait it would’ve revealed his true feelings and she could’ve told him what his chances were. Instead he seems to have offered a convincing argument for why he wouldn’t be in it for romance. So, primary objective achieved?
Maybe, but they’ve been friends for a long time. Long enough that I’d be a bit surprised if Steffi were seriously concerned about that.
You never see those who are right under your nose.
I honestly can’t tell whether you’re agreeing with me or making a counterpoint.
I’m funny that way.
You’re not the only one Benzene. You’re not the only one!
Suddenly Steffis hair lost their form
this seriously made me crack up!!!
and i was in maccas XD
i LUV this update!! go Team Ben!!!!
Raccoon agrees! But I would like to offer to poly approach, because why have bananas or cherries when you can have sundaes?
Weird food references I don’t really get, but I like the metaphor!
Haha oh Ben XD This could get ugly even if she is gay.
Does this mean we’ll get to hear Steffi’s orientation finally?
My bet is the classic, I-think-I’m-straight-but-I’m-too-young-to-know-for-sure deal.
It’s okay, Ben, everyone’s questionable until they confirm it.
I assume everyone’s an asexual aromantic until told otherwise.
I wouldn’t say I assume as much. I just tend not to think about it unless prompted, and don’t make any assumptions. That way, I’m not too surprised when I find out that my friends are actually allo. So, I had never considered Steffi’s orientation before, but like I said in a previous comment (which you haven’t seen yet because it’s still awaiting moderation), I’m now getting the impression that she’s ace (possibly aromantic as well). It would be fantastic if that were made canon.
Oh, I don’t assume anything either, and also don’t really care. You’ll find that my comments are about 80% silly. But the truthful 20% of that is that yeah, it’s best not to assume the direction(s) someone swings in.
The swing in question of course being a tire swing, so it sways in every direction possible.
A quantum tire swing. It sways in every direction possible simultaneously.
YES YES YES YES YES.
Wait. Curse this silly autism! Okay, now that I understand what you were saying, to redo that statement (since I can’t delete comments):
“Of course! I never meant to imply it would only swing in one direction at a time. (^o^) …..come to think of it, swings are a really bad metaphor for this.”
I don’t think about it either, mostly because it doesn’t concern me. lol
That probably makes things easier than assuming everyone’s an omnisexual polyromantic, but it isn’t nearly as fun!
I doubt I’d have much fun assuming omnisexuality, since thinking of people as sexual beings doesn’t come naturally to me anyway. Wait, do you mean ‘polyromantic’ or ‘polyamorous’? Because the assumed necessity of strict binary relationships does seem odd to me, so assuming polyamory is something I could pull off, and that really would be a fun way to screw with people and their normative assumptions.
Prezombie, it’s fine to love everything and everybody, but it’s best not to assume everyone else follows your pattern. Like how I have a tendency to ramble about toy robots that turn into other things, despite the listener not caring at all.
Seth, I agree that pairing off seems weird to me!
And I thought the last comic’s discussion section was going to explode…
Haha, really? I honestly never would have considered Steffi as gay. I wonder where he got that impression?
Probably from that one picture of Steffi kissing Bina from tumblr.
It’s official then! Ben can break the fourth wall and knows about fan art and the things we say in the chat! :O
EVERYBODY SHHH! BEN IS WATCHING US!
wait, what? which page is this?
Also, from the fact that she wants to be an ACTION HERO and exhibits other generally masculine characteristics.
Also, from the fact that he’s a teenage boy, and probably fantasizes about the possibility of every female he knows being gay.
Interesting! Usually it’s the other way around (girl thinks guy is gay). I like this! I like it greatly! You’re a brilliant writer, Cube.
So what will come next? This could go any number of ways.
……………………no comment XD
But that itself is a comment D:
this…….this is true…
…. Oh my god suddenly Steffi’s hair is looking incredibly Taco-Luka-like and I can’t unsee it anymore
Tentacle hair. You will love it.
*Shakes own curly, wavy hair-tentacles at you.*
Yes, that’s who I was thinking of before. And I’d wish for a piece of that tentacle hair action, but at some point got the feeling I’m barking up the wrong tree.
*should just focus on the comic and not eye-catching commentators, though this technically still applies to the relationship dynamic discussions for this page in general*
Damn, that was a long statement for implied inner monologue.
I think I understood half of that?
Mostly I get an incredibly feeling to take my hat off and make my gravatar a photo of my tentacle-drill hair….
“Eye-catching” is the key word. You caught my interest, but this isn’t the time or place so I should return my attention to the comic.
Bahahahahaa! Oh, Miss Cagle, you are a card!
*burts into song*
If you were gaaaaay
that’d be okaaaaay
oh my god, was NOT expecting this. Can’t wait for the next page!
Put the helmet back on.
Put the helmet back on.
Put the helmet back on.
roflcopter XD… I wasn’t expecting the comments of all things to set me off laughing again
Hmm, this’ll be interesting regardless of the outcome.
Huh. Looks like my SECRET TRACK UNLOCK on the previous page was premature. Well, thank goodness for remixes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmvm7DIepJs
Time to star running little man…
Why do I think this will lead to Steffi chasing ben through the woods saying that she doesn’t swing that way and eventually tackling him while chandra happens to see this and gets her dreams crushed of being with steffi?
instead of facepalming I’m going to just laugh at this situation being reversed for once.
Well, Steffi’s interest in the matter seems to say otherwise, but that was always my impression from her! (Well, not necesarrily exclusively gay, but certainly leaning towards the ladies)
My old status as a lesbian probably causes too many yuri-fangirling for my own good.
Huh, I never looked at it like that.
She teams up with a girl and a girl (?) wants to kick her ass.
I bet I’d think the same in Ben’s situation.
Aw, I thought Ben was the twink!
TAKE COVER MAN!!!
So,how’s that foot taste, young Master Contractor? This might be the right motivator for Steffi to get her fighting chops in geat to kick Ben’s ass… But,seriously now,Ben? Take a leaf from my book: Assume asexual and aromantic until confirmed otherwise. It saves you a whole world of pain.
Then again, comic characters rarely read the comments.
“Young Master Contractor” is the official new name for Benzene.
LAWL! Wasn’t expecting that!
Although, Steffi does give off the impression of at least being bi…
Really, I expected Ben to say he was gay.
I guess he hasn’t yet said that he isn’t.
Time will only tell.
shipping! why must you be the bane of my safe mind?!
btw, minus 5 Ben
I’m trying to wrap my mind around that one, and I just can’t. I can’t even see 42 having the capacity for a queerplatonic relationship. Maybe if Steffi’s lithromantic? Eh, it’d still be a little weird.
As roboromantic as I tend to be, 42 doesn’t have much in the way of personality or, more-importantly, sentience. But who can say?
One of these days I need to pore through the comments and document every commented ship…..
that was mostly a joke, though 42 is obviously more human at times then she lets on, course that murderous smile kind of distracts from it
I lol’ed. Way to make an awkward conversation worse, Benzene.
When thinking about love and stuff, it’s really difficult to be sure about anything, since you get blind-sided by the weird feelings and HORRIBLE REGRETS that just pop up. Especially when trying to figure out how someone else sees you. Even if you don’t love the person, it’s still mind-numbing wondering what people think of you. You’re stuck constantly worrying and questioning to yourself “Well? What does this person think of me? Oh please oh please oh please don’t think of me in some way or another….”
So, to my eyes, Steffi’s concern is completely justified, and she deserves to know what Ben’s true opinion is of her. The truth may hurt sometimes, but it’s better than killing yourself from worry.
(For the record, that was one of the most serious comments I’ve made to date.)
Well, I suspect there’s one raccoon-themed thief that hopes she is, anyway.
Sorry for the double post, but I just remembered, Gear leapt to that conclusion, too. So gay or not, she must give that impression.
I have a hypothesis: Steffi and Ben haven’t yet spent a lot of time thinking about sexuality (other’s or their own). She has noticed that she’s attracted to boys and (tentatively) put herself in the ‘straight’ column. Ben has noticed that in her interactions with other girls she shows signs of being interested in them as girls, and has put her in the ‘gay’ column. When this discussion gets sorted out, which is likely to take a while, Steffi realizes that she’s bi-leaning-hetero. And the SteffixChandraxBen (probably not in that order) ship is still afloat.
I’m not arguing against any of the other scenarios (yet) because we really don’t have the information. Just one other thing: I don’t know how awkward this conversation is going to get, but the awkwardness is an indication of how important it is to get this straightened out. I could say (partially stealing the idea): There’s no situation so awkward that it won’t get more awkward while you’re pretending it doesn’t exist.
It took me till I was 17 to figure everything out with myself, and some people take even longer. Since they’re only 14, I think it’s pretty safe to assume they haven’t spent a lot of time thinking it over.
Understanding is not necessarily a function of time spent thinking. I went on buying into the assumption that I was straight and cis until early this year, age 22. I’ve also heard of people figuring things out in their 40′s, and people having a clear idea of their identity at Steffi’s age or earlier. As long as no one starts pulling any Invalidation by Age bullshit, we’re good (not that I think you’d do that, but there are far too many people who would).
Ah, I thought I was trying to get that across! I was trying to say that everyone is different. Some people know who they are are a young age, some never do, and others’ identities can fluctaute. I certainly have a history of that last one!
I don’t know what “Invalidation by Age” means, though.
I assume that means like, “They cant know for sure they’re still too young”, but I admit I could be wrong there.
Yeah, if you have a false assumption at the base of your logic you can think forever without getting to the truth. Things that you learn while you’re very young aren’t ‘assumptions’ to be questioned as much as simply part of your understanding of the world. It can be decades before the “fact that won’t fit” brings the whole house of cards crashing down. (I’m speaking from experience, although my specific situation was not related to sexuality.)
Oh I agree entirely.
“Why are you getting so mad, Mommy? The teachers told me to sit in this printer room all day by myself, so I’ve been obeying them. I haven’t even gotten up to use the rest room or anything.” seems like a perfectly logical answer when you’re a kid who has a limited view of the world, but as an adult you look back at such times and wonder why your parents didn’t give the school a lawsuit for child endangerment and neglect.
It’s not a matter of “being too young”, it’s simply a matter of perspective.
I want Steffi to be gay or at least bi, but that’s because I’m a crazed shoujo-ai/yuri fangirl. OF DOOM.
Yuri of DOOM.
….Now I have this image in my head of some hellish lily that will bring about the end of the world.
I can agree with the sentiment on similar grounds, though time will tell what Cube deems the best solution.
Make it talk and you’ll have Kiwi Shop of Horrors. “Feed me, Benzene!”
Yes! All of this! Yes! I will feed you, yuri fangirl OF DOOM. Just tell me what you want. (Well, except for my cats, but you could choke on the fur anyway you know? So, anything but the cats.)
Sometimes I wonder how many people know there’s an original black-and-white version of that film. Speaking of which, I love the original to pieces~
“Feeeeed me~” And thenthe protagonsit keeps accidently killing people gruseomly, and decides to just feed them to the plant since it wanted meat. Eventually they stop being accidents though….
Hilarious movie, yes, but a bit dark for KB. XD (And I don’t just mean because it happens at night for most of the film!)
I’m aware of but haven’t seen the original or the stage version.
Yay, someone who at least knows it exists! Now go watch it, it’s in the public domain.
Sooo much better than the lousy, coloured musical.
On the other hand, it could be a double-homage by being Pet Shop of Horrors with actual kiwi.
why do I have a feeling that only half of this track will be about sneaking into a furry convention, and the other will be cube seeing how much she can screw around with the shippers heads.
Well, if you remember the comments when the sneaking-into-furry-bar was announced, I think the track is 100% screwing with fans’ heads. XD
This track can pretty much be summarized by “A pink-haired girl with a robot leg who masquerades as a superhero to fight crime in a mecha shaped like a kiwi bird enlists her androgynous-but-female kleptomaniac friend to help her sneak into a furry bar to arrest the leader of a furry crime syndicate.” I think Cube makes her LIVING off of screwing with fans’ heads.
… O.o OOOOOOOOOkay now it’s getting weird…
As opposed to the totally banal plot the comic had heretofore been following?
Nah, nothin’s weird about giant robots and cyborg killers with power buttons for eyes.
Well, obviously, but what about the furry crime ring?
The only thing more pedestrian is a weapons-company-turned-robotic-limb-depot.
Except for illegally created androids. I swear, you can’t throw a rock around here without hitting 10 of ‘em.
And now, for a Very Special Episode of Kiwi Blitz….
I’m sorry. It had to be said.
This is a great webcomic. Excellent work!
In times of social awkwardness, the best move is to tickle. Ben’s bare foot is right there near Steffi’s hand.
I’m tempted to comment just so Seth and Shockpulse will start a reply thread.
Seriously though, Ben is handling this rather well. If not in words then in manners. They both seem extremely not embarrassed about all this, which a smidge disappointing but also pretty refreshing.
I do have a tendency to talk a lot!
I agree though, this is the epitome of “awkward”, but they are both in pretty good control of what they’re saying, taking care not to tread on things too dangerously. A trait I unfortunately have yet to learn. XD
I have a tendency not to talk a lot!
No, seriously. This is unusual for me. I read so many webcomics, but mostly, I lurk. I am almost certain that I have left more comments on this single page of KB than I have on all other pages of all webcomics combined. It’s been fun.
I, too, detect no embarrassment from Steffi, but Ben in that last panel is looking both embarrassed and apologetic to me.
KB is literally the only webcomic I leave comments on. And I didn’t leave any for over a year of reading it. XD
AAAAUUUUGH!!!! Ben you just screwed up any chance you had with her.
next episode, we attend ben’s funeral
did not see that one coming from him…
