Speaking as a DBK amputee (Double Below Knee), I often tell people that the worst “Phantom Sensation” I get is itching. Imagine, you get an itch in a foot that you don’t just lack feeling in, but one that isn’t there at all to scratch! Fortunately, as time has gone on, I have trained myself to be able to scratch my arm when my non-feet itch and it helps!

I usually stop myself before it gets too bad, but I also have a problem with scratching at my skin. More than once I’ve woken up to find a big mess of dried blood and a big wound somewhere.

Because of a combination of Asperger Syndrome and being underweight, I am oversensitive to touch, with any and all sensations being amplified and lingering indefinitely. For me, usually the compulsive scratching comes from a desire to override the awful tingling and pain that light brushings and touches cause. I feel like going on more, but I think I would be rambling! So I’ll leave it at that.

I just had massive nerve damage to my leg, and I get phantom pain (mostly itches though). The bad thing about “Phantom Itching” is you can do real damage trying to scratch an itch that doesn’t really exist, or exists on a different part of your body than where you’re scratching. Seriously I have scratched until I bleed in my sleep trying to make it stop itching and gotten infections because of it.

Well emotional pain isn’t exactly we automatically think of when when we pain, so I’m kinda crawling out of the box wwith my idea hile you’re leaping out of it with yours!
I don’t think I’d ever think of that!
