Manga tends to use fuzzier, less cloud-shaped thought balloons, and right now manga is still the biggest, trend-settingest source of inspiration for western comics.
I also think thought balloons of all shapes are going out of style in general. Call me cynical, but I think that’s probably writers having movie-envy.
Actually I prefer the cloud shaped thought bubbles, it’s old school and it shows you know what your doing unlike all these new guys who seem more into envy of movies than putting out quality. At least if you ask me, but then I’m 40…
Cube, are you sneaking in previously seen background characters in other scenes?! Maybe even a COMPLETELY NEW CHARACTER?!
..Suddenly I see paranoia heading my way, telling me the kid is part of Alter or something and he’s actually there to keep an eye on Blitz and Raccoon cause they’re both animal themed and…
..Whoa. Blacked out there for a second. What were we talking about again?
It WOULD be absolutely AWESOME if he’s actually part of Alter.
To increase awesome: He’s actually Chandra’s handler and has been slyly hiding the fact from her during class. They know each other quite well, in fact, and he helps her on the math homework. When he goes home, he opens a hole in the wall (because why not at this point) and steps into his Control Booth, where he finds The Raccoon’s next heist and gathers intel. Chandra’s not told him about Steffi yet, but the whole “Raccoon + Kiwi Heist!!” thing in the headlines has him shocked and confused and very very VERY concerned.

Also, I agree with everyone else, Panel 3 is EXTREMELY well done. Does this mean the whole thing shipping Chandra and Steffi is at least one-sided in canon? Because authors do the whole “ShipTease” thing quite a bit, so…..
That third panel really is the star of this page!
My own theory with Bomb Kid is that whole situation just caused so much trauma, he’s always acting like that ever since. Like, he’s afraid to get out of the bed each morning because someone might blow him up.
Somehow a combination of “d’aww, no wonder I was shipping you two since before we even knew who you were, Raccoon!” and “this is actually a pretty fun, silly lil’ page with the neat punchline subplot that KB often has!”
Looks like Chandra is as bad at figuring out secrets as she is at keeping them (She must be, like, the only person in town who hasn’t figured out that Steffi is Blitz)
Actually, a few people have kind of guessed, thaks to her distinctive hair colour. The main reason she’s not in trouble is because the police force doesn’t have the money to deal with her Dad’s “like, 50 lawyers”.
A while back, there was a whole news report where bascially everyone at the RBL agreed “yeah, Blitz has to be Steffi”. The only reason she hasn’t been caught is that there’s not hard eveidence to bring up against the daughter of the resident rich guy.
Math is easy; Mathphobia just makes a self forfilling cycle the hides the fact from you. You told by older kids math is hard, so you fear get to next level, when you get there you so worked up that its hard so you have a mental block saying cause it to be hard…
Okay okay okay, The Chandra Steffi thing is adorable, but am I the only one wondering…
WHERE THE HELL IS BENZENE!? It’s been like a full chapter since we’ve seen him, literally months. What has he been doing all this time!
He’s probably been trying to get Steffi’s wet dog smell out of the house or helping to fix Kiwibot or something.
Ooo, gosh…
I’m really sorry for the multiple comments, Cube and everyone. That was a terrible accident. I’ll remember my name for this comic, since I suspect the change probably bothered it.
I shouldn’t even have different names for different comics, though. Oi. Only me… I gotta calm down. o+<
Last comment for this page and… probably a couple more pages. <<;
W…What’s wrong with cloud shaped thought bubbles? D:

I LIKE MY COULD-SHAPED THOUGHT BUBBLES!
My thoughts are always cloud shaped. Or, at least, really cloudy…
Actually I prefer the cloud shaped thought bubbles, it’s old school and it shows you know what your doing unlike all these new guys who seem more into envy of movies than putting out quality. At least if you ask me, but then I’m 40…
Cloud shaped thought bubbles are awesome!
Thoughts, its in the cloud.
Hey, the concept of “cloud-based” computing didn’t just pop out of nowhere!
I love how that third panel turned out!
Bomb-holding kid has seemed really intimidated by this whole math assignment.
HOCRAP, you’re RIGHT.. It IS Bomb-holding kid!
Cube, are you sneaking in previously seen background characters in other scenes?! Maybe even a COMPLETELY NEW CHARACTER?!

How you should stay on your medication.

He does look a bit.. distracted… poor kid.
Who doesn’t use cloud-shaped thought bubbles??
Yeah I think pretty much every comic uses them.
I think a lot of them use rectangular boxes now. So thought bubbles appear the same way as narration.
That or just floating text, directly over the background image, without a line indicating that anyone is saying it.
My rule of thumb is clouds for thoughts, boxes for inner monologues, and floating text for creepy voices magically appearing in your head.
Screw other people. Cloud thought bubbles are AWESOME.
So Chandra blushes often when she is concentrating on her math assignments then, Mr. teacher?
Excuse me, his name is Sir Learnington.
Cloud shaped thought bubbles and cranial smoke. Kicking it old school.
Cloud-shaped thought bubbles shall never die!
I’m probably crazy, but I think the teacher kind of looks like Wolfman
MATH IS EASY!
Somehow a combination of “d’aww, no wonder I was shipping you two since before we even knew who you were, Raccoon!” and “this is actually a pretty fun, silly lil’ page with the neat punchline subplot that KB often has!”
guess again teacher man
He’s going to be so heartbroken…
Story of a teacher’s life
Wait, cubes have thumbs?
Mind = Blown
Tsk! That’s the problem with learning these days! People keep getting their minds blown!
wait, then what do they use???
I’m behind on the times or something, I didn’t know cloud thought bubbles ever stopped XD
Looks like Chandra is as bad at figuring out secrets as she is at keeping them (She must be, like, the only person in town who hasn’t figured out that Steffi is Blitz)
I think Reed is actually the only one who has figured it out, officially…
Actually, a few people have kind of guessed, thaks to her distinctive hair colour. The main reason she’s not in trouble is because the police force doesn’t have the money to deal with her Dad’s “like, 50 lawyers”.
Also, that is an adorable grumpy face.
A while back, there was a whole news report where bascially everyone at the RBL agreed “yeah, Blitz has to be Steffi”. The only reason she hasn’t been caught is that there’s not hard eveidence to bring up against the daughter of the resident rich guy.
Why can’t I hold all of this D’AWWW?
My present thoughts: “this is adorable”, repeated endlessly. That third panel especially
Wow, Steffi is looking really heroic in Panel #3.
It really depends on the style of the comic. In this case, cloud-shaped is perfect.
if anyone’s using anything that isnt clouds i haven’t noticed o_o
pencil-stache
I love cloud-shaped thought bubbles. They represent thoughts perfectly.
There’s no Fifth Grade Teacher tag! A CRIME
Raccoon <3 Blitz!
I prefer cloud bubbles too.
They got that bubbly stuff going on that makes thoughts wondrous.
the level of adorabillity in this comment has just passed through the stratosphere and into space.
guys am I the only one thinking the bomb boy is cheating off the kid off-screen to the left?
on that whiteboard is the biggest lie to mankind.

Next thing you know we’ll have a return of the purple-haired background character.
I’m waiting for that day. When it happens– I will cry.
I feel so bad for the teacher. Look how happy he is without knowing that Chandra was just doodling and day dreaming the whole time.
Okay okay okay, The Chandra Steffi thing is adorable, but am I the only one wondering…

SO. CUTE. CAN’T TAKE IN ALL OF THIS CUTENESS ARGH
Also, Panel 3 is awesome.
After all these years, my reaction to a phrase like “Math is Easy!” remains the same:
“LIIIESSS!!!”
Also, cloudy thoughts are the best, now and forever!
