Really sorry for the delay! Thanks so much to everyone who came out and saw me at SDCC! I had a blast, but it definitely kicked me on my ass.
Next page should still be up tomorrow :<

Creepy face is creepy.
I KNEW IT!
Well then. That’s just a wee bit terrifying.
Nothing wrong with the desire for self-preservation. In fact, it’s a vital part of humanity! My favourite part, in fact.
It’s not what she said that is creepy, it’s the angle that we see her saying it. *shivers*
It doesn’t feel creepy to me.
It should do. In the last panel Cube’s deliberately made one of 42′s eyes wayyy bigger than the other so that we’d be creeped out.
I honestly think she’s cute. But that might be because I’m insane. I dunno. : D
42 seems to not to only be her name, but also how many steps ahead she is thinking at all times.
wait i just realized she is the answer the life the universe and everything XD
I hope that the desire to self-preserve doesn’t override the first rule of robotics.
Indeed. I saw that episode of Knight Rider.
Though the three laws of robotics do include self-preservation. It’s third in priority.
So if she’s an Asimovian design, it won’t override.
If she’s NOT Asimovian, the laws of robotics aren’t relevant and people should read Asimov before they start building sentient machines to prevent the Terminator uprising.
Actually, I’ve never seen Knight Rider.
Actually, there’s a Zeroth Law in the Asimovian design, even if it’s unofficial. It doesn’t apply here, but basically the Zeroth Law allows them to justify killing a human if it is for the sake of the rest of the world. In the worst case, if the robot honestly believes that the best way to save humanity “from itself” is to end or imprison it, the Zeroth Law will allow it.
@Dion
I don’t remember that part of the novel “I, Robot”!
Oh yeah, fancy new comment system, I don’t need to use “@” anymore.
It comes up in “The Evitable Conflict”, which was one of the last chapters in the edition of I, Robot that I read.
Nope, it happens during the Elijah Bailey novels, the detective novels started with Caves of Steel. It is formulated by R. Giskard, the first telepathic robot, but he is not able to truly act on it, damaging a human based on the zeroth law puts him in robo lock. R. Daneel Olivaw, however, is able to take it to heart and use it. We later run into him in the last few foundation novels, where he has taken the zeroth law to new extremes. (I would say, spoiler alert, but considering the books are all older than I am,
)
“I will use these puny humans until their usefulness comes to an end! Mwahahaha!”
So it seems that these robots ARE Three Laws Compliant…Or at least THIRD Law Compliant. And 42? You are SO creepy right now. That last panel will haunt my nightmares.
Silly Steffi- Her usual face isn’t a murder smile. That there’s the murder smile.
I’m not sure if 42 is now plainly creepy, or kinda INSPIRING.
please tell me that there creator made sure to add ALL THREE rules of robotics when making them.
*shiver* danger! danger, steffi Frolich!
Yeah that sounded better in my head.
Gettin’ creepy here….
I hope her desire to not be destroyed doesn’t conflict with other peoples’ want to live.
Blade Runner, much? 0_o I am now terrified of a potential Hal 42000.
okaym animeboy just became creepy
Delightfully omnious!
Meh. Nothing ominous about it.
It is the same programming that humans operate on.
When you see some random stranger in the street, going about their daily business, do you assume that their intent to survive means they will inevitably come into conflict with you?
… Well actually, I do… so I’m kinda defeating my own purpose. I just don’t believe that the conflict itself is all that significant. As a general rule, the fewer toes you step on, the less frequently your own toes will be stepped on in return.
Don’t treat the robots like enemies and perhaps they won’t have reason to treat you as an enemy either.
It’s part of why I like Doc Light and Doc Wily’s creations so much. Like say,Protoman for instance. Due to a programming error,he had actually received free will. And for a time,He hated Light for abandoning him,and hated Wily for using him. Double edged sword, this one is.
