42!!!!!!!!!!!!1
She can’t die! She’s the 2nd or 3rd favourite character! There’ll be riots and a rememberance day if she’s dead.
(Although considering that you didn’t kill security dude, who’s a completely random extra, it wouldn’t really make sense to kill 42. But I do think something’s going to be done to her and that she will also be reprogrammed for one reason or another.)
I like the neat little tech specs, reminds me of a lot of Japanese animations of my youth, where they took a minute to explain what this new thing is (Pokémon, Digimon, even Yu-Gi-Oh! to an extent with the floating windows showing attack and defence).
A bit wonky perspective in that last panel (though I would have failed even worse).
And whaaaaat did not see that coming.
Quite a good show so far, 35. Jolly, smashing, bang-up job you’ve done to our chap 42, pip pip!
Ah, I guess that kinda explains the absurdly sharp blade thing.
But…Forty…Two…
…must…resist urge…to scream….
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
(I failed miserably)
Okay, now that that’s out of my system, I just wanted to say I like this page a lot. Something about the fourth and fifth panels looks really great. Gotta agree the last panel’s perspective is kind of weird, though.
Actually, I think it’s better science than you think. Today, we say that military grade hardware should be “hardened”. It means that it’s resistant to interference from EMPs and such. However, if you wanted to make an electronics killer, you’d find it quite easy to fry even the most hardened electronics with something that cuts into wires and touches the traces on circuit boards then pulses stong electric current and magnetic fields.
I’m actually okay with the cute Japanese schoolgirl robot getting killed off, as long as it’s by a different cute Japanese schoolgirl robot who becomes a new major character in her place. I mean it’s a little sad, but drama is fine as long as the quota of Japanese schoolgirl robots is maintained.
Don’t worry, she’s not dead. She never was alive to begin with. :p
But she is merely broken and turned off. She can be repaired. Now, the EMP could have fried her circuits (just replace them) and wiped out her memory storage (just restore from remote backup), but robot resurrection is a lot simpler to do than biological resurrection.
It’s just that it doesn’t usually happen because it’d be cheaper to buy a new robot.
If it “interferes” is that mean it can get the information stored in 42? I doubt so, but that’d be horrible! A lot of people would be in biiiig trouble.
I’m sorry, but I cannot get over the incredible coincidence that is five Ben avatars for five different people, all in a row. (See shortly above this post)
Now that I think about it… It took a direct hit to 42′s spine to short out her primary operating systems… maybe. Unless she just decided to backup her AI to another location when she lost the arm due to the imminent danger of taking a second hit.(Which you can clearly see her take before shutting down.)
42-X, rise and take her place! Also, bring that handheld Gatling gun next time you go out alone…
65 cm (a bit over 25 inches) is a wakizashi. 95 cm (a bit over 37 inches) is a katana, but that would look freakin’ huge on 35. I smell foreshadowing!
Also, where exactly is that weapon getting its power? The handle’s big enough for _maybe_ 4 AAAs – oh. “Struck against an object” means “_target_ object”.
Wakizashi are usually between one and two feet long.
Anything over 60cm generally counts as a katana proper, so while 65cm is pretty short it’s still not a wakizashi.
Well, let me tell you ’bout the way she looks,
The way she acted, the color of her hair.
Her voice was soft and cool,
Her eyes were clear and bright but she’s not there.
@Cube – Whoops. I realized why I came up with different lengths. I measured from point to pommel (my wakizashi and katana are 65 and 99 cm respectively), but they have 47 and 73 cm blade lengths. You’re totally right.
@AveragePhantom – Insulated grip? Or, if the power source is contained within the sword (and doesn’t require 35 to supply power to it, freeing up space in her arms/hands), maybe 35′s hands are insulated? Or, that whole dress could be insulated, along with essential parts of her body (the sides of her face?).
Speculative fiction is just as fun as hard sci fi
Plus, you know, this is neat and therefore awesome.
Now I’m wondering if big sister is going to cosplay as little sister and take her place…or if this is just going to be a robot rampage!
This comic has a thing for dismemberment hehe

42, noooooooo!!
screw this im done reading this comic ; A;
Shoot so that thing would work on Kiwibot and such too
That scan seems like legit science to me.
Have the six weeks passed yet?
DAMMIT! I need to know what happens next!
:::cries:::
42! NOOOOOOOO!
And no one expected this. Great Job Cube!!! Panel 5 reminds me of Steffi, when she lost consciousness in the Kiwi Bot awhile back.
Oh no! Not our favorite resident of the Uncanny Valley!
This is what I do to my sisters when they hog all the chips.
42! Nooooooo!!!
Excellent as always.
Nooooo! Pull yourself together 42!
Hey Cube, ever heard of piezo-electric materials? Your iffy science just got a whole lot more real.
Also, NOOOOOOOO! FORTY-TWOOOOOOOO!!
She’d better have a back-up. Or else. >:[

*sics Bahamut on 35*
Creepy robot girl nooooo D:

for the love of god, steffi or SOMEBODY better come out of the blue and pull off a big damn hero moment!

I knew a guy named Zak. I blame him for hurting 42 here.
well… I wasn’t really a 42 fan so meh.
love the angles on this a lot though. and 42′s expressions are very good.

Well… So much for life, the universe, and everything..
@snowgods: LOL.

If she’s alive, maybe 42 is now a body less AI

This may be not a hard scifi.
But this scifi is making me hard!
/wakawakawaka
Also…. 42 NOES!
Five bucks says that 42 will be reprogramed by Hawthorne to go after either Steffi or the Raccoon.
@Shockpulse
. WE ARE THE BEN SQUAD!!!
the upper part of her sleeve ran away in the fourth panel, but it came back for the last one.
#sleevesonstrike
Resistance is futile. You will be benissimilated.
Hey I got a question, in my comic I got a spot with a military obstacle course and was wondering if I could put a kiwibot cameo in the backround?
Now that I think about it… It took a direct hit to 42′s spine to short out her primary operating systems… maybe. Unless she just decided to backup her AI to another location when she lost the arm due to the imminent danger of taking a second hit.(Which you can clearly see her take before shutting down.)
@Tadpole and someone:
You will never take my cute raccoon face! Never!
42! Nooooooooooooo! \(T_T)/

Why doesn’t the blade affect 35?
@AveragePhantom
For the same reason all sword-wielders don’t cut themselves. Swords have HANDLES.
@Cube – Whoops. I realized why I came up with different lengths. I measured from point to pommel (my wakizashi and katana are 65 and 99 cm respectively), but they have 47 and 73 cm blade lengths. You’re totally right.

If a robot loses an arm, they should get an organic replacement.
Gotta ask, is “my friend Shirow” a Masamune Shirow reference?
