EDIT: Wooops typo fixed.
For Japanophiles: 42 pronounces 35′s name as “San-Go”, like the name Sango.
I designed 35 on the plane to Emerald City!

I designed 35 on the plane to Emerald City!

Lovely page as usual, Cube! I see that you’re taking a leap of faith and taking up more organic backgrounds! :O
One minor thing though: is the word “you” missing in the first speech bubble?
I FIXED IT AAAA welcome to my comic all typos all the time!
I really like this new character’s design^^
… and not to be picky, but if 35 calls 42 “Nee-chan,” shouldn’t the translation read “big sister”?
Wowee your colors just get better and better how does that work???
Also I love the backgrounds on this page! Very detailed *u*
@Teruo:
Jesus, clearly I need to start reading things I write!
Nee-chan is what 42 would call 35, while 35 would call 42 imouto, since 35 is the ‘big sister’… If this was all in actual Japanese, which thankfully it’s not since I can’t even handle English clearly! XD
35 looks grumpy. Cute as a button, but grumpy.
So her name is pronounced Shini?
If 35 is San-go, does that mean 42 is Four-two (as opposed to Forty-two)?
@Sabbo actuin “san go” is saying “three five” not thirty five. “thirty five” is “san juu go”
however Sango is an japanese name and it makes sences to use it, but like we call Robots Robby or andriods Andy.
SANGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
………………..
…….
…
………..How’s Miroku? :3
@Teruo
Also, with Robots, the lower the number means the older the model. So 35 is the big sister to 42
42 would indeed be referred to as four-two, aka “Shini.” Which, as a TV Troper noted, means death P:
Not sure if that’d ever come up in the comic. Still mostly a Hitchhiker’s reference.
@Cube but yon is 4 so wouldn’t that be yonjuni
Ahh Can’t I just read it Fourty-two and Thirty-Five please??? This is getting too complicated for me… Also, those trees are wonderful!! Keep up the good work!
oooooooh~ love this page
@Cube I figure 42 was picked for being “the answer” But after seeing you list 35 as San-go I was wondering if 42 had an alternate purpose since it would be pronounced more or less as ‘shiny’ which robots usually are.
whys 35 got a sword? hope its just decoration.
Your art has improved so much even in just the past 2 Tracks. This is incredible.
@Derrath Called it. I knew someone would make that reference…
That aside, I’m wondering how 35 got to Germany? Especially considering 42 had to be smuggled in in parts. She seems to be less creepy than 42 already…must be the bored look.
Also, I agree about your art; the background details and lighting are great.
/wait a minute my mistake they’re somewhere else…aren’t they?
Crap I feel so dumb now
omg
@Cube Yon also means 4 (shi), just like nana means 7(shichi), but yonni isn’t much better of a name then shini ;D
Just to throw out an alternative: “four two” could be translated as “Shini” or “Yonni”. As “shi” means “death”, “yon” is a softer alternative.
Not sure which I like better actually.
omgomgomg 42! oOo
and she has an “older sister” *u*
GORGEOUS.
Wait, I’m confused. What happened with Raccoon?
Looks like I showed up here a little late since the comments imply that there was a lot of dialogue changes. Though very minor in scope.
Anyway:
I like 35′s design. I wasn’t sure until I saw the design doc down below if she had a katana or not.
is the name of 42 and 35′s creator Shiden? cause I read another comic where a guy named shiden made an army of combat capable female model robots. although those looked more adult and much more like humans. still, seems to have some similarities.
Haha good job confusing eachother everybody.
A note on the “Shini” thing- yes I’m aware that Yon is another word for four. (Another word, not the only word) Yonni is kind of awkward though, and doesn’t have the fun double meaning.
Also “Shini” is pronounced like She-Knee, not like Shiny.
@Maelstrom nope
@Edd the only change to the actual comic was fixing the lack of the word “you” in the third panel ’cause woops!
@Bucc-i she went home
@Tadpole absolutely. It’s what every other character in the comic does anyway ;p
@maelstorm No, This is not Yosh! and these robots dont have completely free will or true emotion like Shiden’s robots.
Is it me or does 35 seem like a rogue robot.
beautiful page Cube!
*wonders how many sisters there are in 42′s family* O.O
Yay more robot girls! 35 looks like a samurai, so she gets bonus points in my book!
@Bonnie: I’m going to gueeeeess more than 1 but less than 42!
Goodness gracious it looks like you spent forever on that background! I love the trees’ shadows on the characters.
Wow. Cube, you’re going to have to show us a speed video or tutorial or something on how you do this stuff. This is incredible.
hmm if 42 is actually Four-Two.. then that’d be shi-ni.. or to the largely superstitious population.. yon-ni… which is just slightly naughty, and I love it.
I like the last panel where sango says “Hello Asian, little sister”
OMGAWESOMELOOKINGNEWROBOTCHARACTER! Although it is interesting that Ishinomori decided to set 42′s default expression at “perma smile” while he made 35 so stoic looking.
@Booyah I believe the first panel implies they’re still on the Frohlich estate, but I’m not certain.
@Cube And here I thought you said you wouldn’t be reaping the sown seeds of this plot for several years. :3 And yes, I have insane memory when it comes these sorts of thing.
Also, is there a special reason why 42 her 35 “San-Go” instead of “San-Juu-Go?” Other than the fact that San-Go is a better name and rolls off the tongue better.
@SnappleDaple Uh, I believe she’s saying “Hello *again*, little sister.”
Nah rolling off the tongue is the entire reason P:
Also that particular sown plot had to do with a certain ASPECT of 42 that I will not mention again for vague spoiler reasons ;0 ;0
Fucking samurai look 35 is looking boss this is gonna rock
@Cube Noooooo! Now I’m even more curious!
35: “Little Sister, I am here on a very important mission…. to deliver your finger! Stop losing it, please.”
On a side note, I usually show up early to the comments, but today I’m past #40!
@Shockpulse On the plus side, you did get the 42nd comment on a 42 centered page.
Shini, lol, unexpected foreshadowing? Please make it so.
Also, I’m liking the new character design. Slightly more traditional clothing fitting the older sister.
Oh dear, they can think for themselves! D:
TO THE ESCAPE PODS
I just finished digging through the archives, and I really enjoy this comic
OK, now I’m waiting for 23 to show up with a male appearance, just so they can call him Ni-san (as in ‘big brother’)
Great page. I just took a Japanese test, so I automatically translated the bottom left speech bubble to “Sango-san, hisashiburi desune.”
I’d like to see 35 be more emotional with free will, but having some other design flaw as a side effect of said free will that makes 42 the superior model.
@Hfar
I suppose that’s true! I suppose that’s better than that silly “first!” thing.
@Copyright Theft Big Brother is Nii-san not Ni-san
yes and yes it important, it the same difference between oji-san (uncle) and ojii-san (grand father) and the ever popuer anime joke oba-san (aunt) and obaa-san (grand mother) thats the joke that is happen when you see a woman compain about a minor caller her an old lady… where the minor calls her obaasan rather than expected obasan
@roguebfl
What is this crazy language you speak of?
I only see a comic written in English.
@Shockpulse That would be Moonspeak.
@roguebfl
Yes but they would still sound similar enough for the purpose of puns. Like their & there, sound the same but mean different things. So there.
@Copyright Theft
More like “Their, they’re, there”.
)
In any case, this ending to the chapter sounds appropriately ominous. @_@
Heh. I knew that 42 has sisters- and I knew one of them was going to appear in the comic! But I wasn’t expecting 35′s appearance in the least! :O
Does 35 then refer to 42 as Yon-Ni, or perhaps Shi-Ni (if she is not superstitious)?
